Modern Studio Maternity Session in Oakland

There is something special about keeping maternity photos simple. No big productions and no complicated styling. Just natural light, quiet moments, and the ease of being yourself. This modern maternity session was photographed in my Oakland studio using a mix of digital and film, including a few frames on CineStill 800, which adds a warm and cinematic feel to the gallery.

Maternity doesn’t need to feel elaborate to be meaningful. For this studio session, we kept everything intentionally simple. A soft sweater, a classic black dress, a denim set, and a clean white backdrop were all we needed. The goal was to create images that feel personal and grounded rather than overly styled or dramatic.

We started with soft natural light against the white wall. The quiet mood gives space for the little in-between moments—the hand on the belly, the breath in the chest, the curves that shift as you settle into yourself. Several frames were captured on film, including CineStill 800, which brings in those subtle warm tones and grain that make the images feel lived-in and emotional.

From there, we moved into a denim look to bring in a more casual, everyday feel. This is one of my favorite ways to photograph maternity because it celebrates the real parts of pregnancy, not just the polished ones. Film and digital blend together in this part of the session, adding texture and depth without overpowering the simplicity.

To finish the session, we shifted to the black backdrop for something a little moodier. The black dress elevated the look without leaning into anything too formal. The mix of digital clarity and the soft grain of film gives this part of the gallery a striking balance—clean lines, shadows that wrap, and a quiet intensity that feels timeless.
